Won't have own Internet for a month or so, and can't even update my hardware list (last minute thought while Im at my folks house). I have a new(er) MSI micro atx MB in the mix now, and thought it to be the problem, however the compatibility site says fully compatible. I cannot see the new LG DVD burner to be a problem, either.
Will update hardware list ASAP, but have no idea when that will be. I have dumped all files from my JBOD mess onto my new seagate 2T external, and have been wanting to get back to the Win 7 / Ultimate Edition 2.7 (sorry, just think that to be the peak of Ubuntu, I do NOT like the unity desktop that I can't customize....) Dual-boot setup. I don't even think I'll be giving Win 8 a test drive, as I have heard they will be leaning toward the nettop - style UI, as well.
Anyway, I used DBAN to wipe my SATA 750GB 'cuda. I TRIED numerous times to put Win 7 on the thing first, but with the same results as I will explain. I wanted SOMETHING to work from, and installed Ultimate Edition 2.7, and all updates. So I created a separate partition for W 7 to try again a couple times, and this I what happens:
It seems to install fine, but the very LAST time that it restarts, the logo animation plays, and then the screen just freezes black. When I try to use the install disk to "Repair", IT says that it is the wrong version. When I use the Windows 7 64 bit REPAIR disk, it finds no problems. I DID notice that after it sets long enough with a black screen, my monitor will loose signal, as if the OS is operating, and then goes to screen saver mode or something, because when I jiggle the mouse, the signal comes back (black, of course, but the monitor shows a signal again). I try booting to safe mode but it states that installation cannot continue in safe mode. This IS the custom NVIDIA version shown in my signature That I am trying to install from. I have re-burned the DVD and the checksum shows correct as well. I am at a pure dead-end. The same thing happened when there was NO OS on the drive (probably 3 or four attempts, with 2 DVD's)
I sure hope someone has a clue and experience with this problem and can point me where to look or talk me through a solution...???
