Ubuntu boots into Terminal

After installing the latest ATI Driver (Catalyst 11.4) .. Ubuntu boots into Terminal is there any way to rectify this problem without disabling driver/booting into safe graphics mode???

First - not terminal but rather command prompt log in.

Second - this happened because 11.4 didn't have needed drivers to properly support your GPU.

FIX = boot to safe mode and select safe graphics mode, now install a OLDER cat version that does support your gpu.

I tried going back to ATI catalyst 10.10 .... seemed it worked but one big problem I'm having is the monitor keeps saying "Resolution out of Range" .... how do i rectify this problem ...

I got it working by installing "Additional Driver" ... now i have another problem compiz is not opening ... do u know how i can rectify this problem ..??

That is a known problem with compiz and driver updates.

Temp work around was to use another rig to set the wanted settings then copying over the .compiz folders from home/.config/.gconfig

Permanent fix, yet to find. Moved to Natty 11.04 rather then ever looking for the fix any longer lol. ;)
