Music playback threw FTP, Router Storage Device

Postby Jeahavee » Thu Apr 14, 2011 1:01 pm

I have setup my new router [Asus RTn56u] and I've got 2 of my storage device connected to it. One has all my music and the other my videos. I need a way to play back music and videos in Linux threw them. I'd also like to be able to save files and data directly to them. I can do it on Windows.

Without having to put 2200 songs on my local hard drive how can I "stream" the music threw Banshee (or something else I guess)? If that can be figured out I guess everything else will fall into place.

You may want to consider setting up one computer as a server and avoiding wireless and usb as much as possible..........

If I had that router I could help you out. If Windows runs it better, dual boot. Every os has it's +/-.

I use Samba to connect to shared folders and files on our home-network and as far as I can see, it should be possible for you too
With effortless connectivity to a range of devices and FTP, SAMBA, UPnP AV server and DLNA standard compatible all supported, sharing and networking become easier than ever. Plus, the RT-N56U can continue downloading FTTP, FTP and BitTorrent file to the USB disk all day even when your PC is turned off. Additionally, the twin USB ports allow the router to offer printer and file server functions, so you enjoy simultaneous wireless printing, scanning and file sharing via the comfort of standardized USB!

IGHT so I GOT IT <BREW> .
Once you install samba you go to "go" in Nautilus (File Manager) and location and type in the ftp server address and I can drag and drop just like on Windows. PERFECT... well no the only thing is my music files don't read "genre". That is kind of a problem but at least I can playback music.

I guess I gotta ask ASUS about this whole downloading torrents without Windows or Linux or the computer on.
