Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.9

Readability of text-SOLVED!

Postby drewstew » Sun Mar 27, 2011 12:51 pm

I've just found Ultimate, installed it and am very impressed -but - I am really having difficulty with the Themes! I find that some programs are completely unusable because the folder, title and background are all white. Use of Compiz's "Negative" view doesn't help at all. Searching reviews of the distro, this is raised as the biggest beef, yet strangely, nothing I've been able to find in these Forums.
Is this a bug and is there some workaround anyone knows please?

Just to give ya a idea, tweak her out to FIT your needs as you see fit, nothing that cant be done with a little effort. use that tutorial.

Set text to any shape or color or size you want.

Thanks for suggestions. Did a bit of tweaking, but I still have the same problem. It seems to be 2 programs in particular - Dolphin and K3B. I change or tweak the themes and they become readable, however immediately I close them down and re-open I have this dark grey overall background punctuated by pools of white containing the folders and text. Any other ideas pse?
BTW, I can rule out it being a problem on this computer - I'm running 64-bit Ultimate Edition here, but on my other computer, I have the 32-bit version installed with exactly the same problem with the same two programs.

Change your window decorator from emerald to gtk, and reload the window manager, all via the compiz icon ! then you can change your theme via appearances or right click on desktop and change desktop back ground ! These issues should go away ! :ugeek:

I'm sorry Johnny, I really must be missing a trick here. I've followed all the steps, and still getting the same result. I change to GTK, reload, go to backgrounds, customise the theme -colours; text and save it. For one glorious moment Dolphin and K3b are readable. I close them, re-open, and back to the same problem, white folders, white background, white text! What am I not doing to resolve this please?
I'd describe myself as an intermediate user, reasonably competent with linux, and well used to tweaking settings, but this has me baffled.

Sorry man, I just don't use them apps. Never have, need to dig more into this tomorrow. 1:38 am here right now.

So are other apps doing the same thing?

Home folder decrypted at time of changes made?

Home was installed without decryption. I've found 3 applications where the problem's apparent - K3b, Dolphin, and System Settings - they "normalise" when I change Theme with them open, but if I close and re-open the problem reappears. I'm guessing, I'll have to live with it - just hoped there might be an easy answer. Otherwise, I just love this distro more and more! Also my first 64bit install - the difference in sharpness of images is really noticeable - like upgrading to HD television!
