Ok here is a question for some of you who might have successfully done it.
I plan on buying an ASUS Eee PC 8G notebook...it will have the 10 inch screen later this year..I will be around 400-500 dollars. My question is : Since this notebook doesn't have a CD/DVD drive...How should I go about extracting the ISO/MD5 to an Flash Thumbdrive or other external drive.? And yes I have the option to boot from USB in my Bios. I am looking for the same feature you could buy from a mandriva thumb drive with the OS installed on it.

Funny thing, that.
I was just reading an older post earlier today, where this subject came up.
this was the link they had posted http://www.debuntu.org/how-to-install-ubuntu-linux-on-usb-bar
I liked it enough, I bookmarked it.
Just can't remember who posted it.

Hi I am new here. Although I have used Ubuntu a while ago this is the first time I am trying out Ultimate gamers edition.
Few questions:
1. I made a 10 gb partition on my laptop for Ultimate Gamer's Edition 2.0 it is taking up 9.8 gbs of my partition. how can i clear out some space.
2. I was asked during istallation if i want to import my vista account and i said yes, does that mean I have 2 copies of the same documents on my hard drive. If yes how can i get rid of the duplicate copy on ubuntu.
3. I am facing this problem recently. It was working fine before, I can log into my session with my username and password fine. but when i try to mount my C:( Vista partition to access my documents) it doesnot accept my password.
4. when I start my firefox i get an error message:
{Alert!
Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely caue is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features. }

what do i need to fix these problems?
Over all its a very good job done. Just wish I can free up some space on my partition so i can actually install updates.

Thanks for you help.

unetbootin is great to install from a flash drive(4 gig min):
http://lubi.sourceforge.net/unetbootin.html
If you are going to dual boot split your hard drive in half. i.e. One half for Windows One half for Ultimate. If you decide to start converting video with Ultimate you are going to need plenty of room. Also, operating systems respond better when they have breathing space.
p.s. Don't import anything from Windows chances are it will screw something up!!!

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update

run this command until it tells you it's updated with no errors, then run the update manager again.
If you installed your video drivers with envy, don't forget to reinstall them after all the updates are complete and before you reboot.
