Conky your way in 2.8?

hmmmm.... there was someone that got an answer, but I can't find it. How do you start conky (and keep it running whe I restart my machine) in 2.8?

Hmmm. yea I have seen that ! and 2h2ft2 had the answer! But I'll give it a go! open system preferances>startup applications> add>then add "conky" to "name" and "conky" to command! close. logout and back in! to stop conky open terminal and type "killall conky" should do it!

How to start it automatically every boot.
1. Create a file in your home folder named Start-Conky and add this to it

    conky &
    exit 0


Save and Close
then right click on it and select properties then the Permissions tab
Execute: (check the box to make it executable)
Go to
System > Preferences > Startup Applications
click on Add
Name: Conky
Command: (browse and select the Start-Conky file you created)
Comment: Whatever you want

Save then Close

That's it. It will start 30 seconds after boot. You can start it manually by double clicking on the Start-Conky file and selecting Run. It will start in 30 seconds.

The 30 second delay is so that everything is up and running before the script is invoked.

Very nice I have adjusted the width from 320 to 220 but I need to know how to adjust the length ! It runs past the bottom of the screen. Other than that very nice!

I have fixed this in 1.01, please adjust "FONTSIZE", I added your Start-Conky script to the tar. I suppose I should specify copy all to you home folder and do the following:

Want to test this theory, to auto add your script to startup, it is untested?

Hi guys,

have followed advice on this link re getting conky up & running etc.
looks great, boots up after everything loaded so no worries there.
Was just wondering any way of getting conky to display motherboard, cpu, ram & hard drive temperatures???
If so how??
If its simple coding, whats the best way of doing it??
Any advice & help would be useful

Remember Google is your friend ! Yes there are ways of doing this, search conky how to "Your issue" and you will get much feed back ! It is all a matter of placement and code ! I am sure some will come and help !! Stanca Is the "in house" conky Mahn ! He has the grip on such things !!!

yea, I have dug through The Google and have this issue:
When I have conky as a startup application it sits on top of any app I open. I would like it to sit in the background.
I suspect I need to edit my .conkyrc script but am not sure what to edit.

Did you use Thee's conky builder or another script !
open you home folder then Cntl+h to open hidden files find .conkyrc rename to .conkyrc1 copy and past mine to gedit and save as .conkyrc in your home folder, then start conky and see if it does the same thing !

is my command line, I also tried

/billh/Downloads/sh conky.sh

and neither worked.
when I started it in the terminal it does work.

thanks, now I will have to reinstall conky tho, all the messing around has screwed things up.
