Hi guys

I'm new here but not new to linux operating system.
I have an old configuration hardware with Sapphire Radeon X1800 GTO graphic card. This is the first Ultimate Edition that work with my video card with the default video driver, but i have some problems.
I have a LCD TV attached on my graphic card. When both displays are activated, my LCD TV became default monitor, because all the panels are moved to this display, and the other display in front of me remains empty, only with the background. When i deactivate the LCD TV panels goes back to my main display.
How can i move the panels from LCD TV to my monitor, or make my monitor the default display?
I need to use my LCD TV for watching movies or something else and use my default display for other things in the same time.

When i try to install fglrx or the last driver from ati things are going crazy. Only with default video driver i can use 3D effects.
I cannot install the Catalyst 9.3 which contains the driver for my card. It gives me the following error
Code: Select all
Error: ./default_policy.sh does not support version
default:v2:i686:lib::none:2.6.32-22-generic-pae; make sure that the version is being
correctly set by --iscurrentdistro

The open source driver is the only one you can use.Have you tried any third party apps?I know there's a few in synaptics.Ill see if I can scrounge some up for ya.

on a side note...the first monitor you plug in should be your default. Then plug in your second.I would throw a reboot in between them personally...but it might not be needed.Have you played with this yet?<see pics.

That settings was the first thing i played with after install. At the beginning each resolution was set default to 1024x768 and the panels were on my Philips 19" monitor. When i set resolution to 1280x1024 on my Philips 19" monitor and 1366x768 on my 37LG3000 TV, panels from top and bottom were moved to my 37LG3000 TV. I tried to switch in settings window the displays from left to right but no matter how i arranged them, panels remains on my LCD TV. There is no option to set one of them to be the default display.
I'm at work now, but when i get home i will try to unplug my LCD TV, restart, plug in again, restart again and see what happen. Should i switch the output cables on my graphic card and put LCD TV instead monitor and monitor instead LCD TV?
I think all that problem is because of driver.

The driver that came with Ultimate Edition 2.7 is good enough or i must search for another one? Where i can find open source driver for my Sapphire Radeon X1800 GTO graphic card? I want to be able to use Compiz full effects, 3D settings and play some 3D games.
What third party application should i install to try fixing this problem?

That drivers is basically the only one we have. There are a few other "beefed" up drivers, but might prove more problematic than the stock. If I get a chance later tonight Ill post some links for the other drivers.I did look for the synaptic apps I used to use,but it seems there not in the lucid repos? One that comes to mind now is xrander. Its a terminal app,but there is a gui or it.It should be in synaptics.

Hi again,

I come back with some info, because i solve the problem in 2 ways. First i use "xrandr -q" and i saw that DVI-0 are connected with my LCD TV and DVI-1 with my default monitor. I switch the cables and after that LCD TV appear on DVI-1 and Monitor on DVI-0. The problem was solved this way, all panels were moved to my main display. That was the bad solution because all bios display information from system boot was showing only on my LCD TV. I switch back again cables and now the boot info are showing on both displays, but the problem with primary display in ultimate edition remains.

I search the manual for xrandr and saw an option --primary and i used that option on my main display settings. The problem was solved instantly. The command that i used was:
Code: Select all
sudo xrandr --output DVI-0 --mode 1360x768 --output DVI-1 --mode 1280x1024 --primary --left-of DVI-0

I tried 3 gui interfaces for xrandr but none of them have a checkbox for primary display. Maybe in future versions someone will add that option.

Next step is to configure wine to play Eve Online.

Hi, searched but couldn't find my issue so here goes.
Older ATI Raedon 9200 128Mb card (I know, I know, upgrade, but I can't afford to!).
Acer 19" widescreen monitor
Desired resolution 1440x900

Fresh install, all eye candy works, compiz is real smooth, BUT, the highest resolution i can get is 16:9
In the old days, I would tweak the xorg.conf file, add my resolutions, restart X and voila. But now I can't find any configuration file to tweak.
I tried upgrading the drivers to flgrx but, a) lost all eye candy and b) still didn't get 1440x900. So I "downgraded"

Any help would be appreciated.
ps: Same issue in 2.8 alpha2
