You can always directly delete by high lighting the file, and pressing shift+delete.
Other than that, I would need to know some more information. Particularly all of it, like what environment are you in, what environment are you referring to, what file manager are you in, what file manager are you referring to, what you are trying to delete, is it a file, a folder, an OS, are you referring to a particular program, application, etc..
If you are using 2.6 you are surely going to have more problems than that however, since it is no longer supported.
