Disappearing User Directories

It's really weird...every now-and-then, some of the 'User Directories' (Documents/Download/Pictures) disappear from 'Places'-

When I edit the [user-dirs.dirs] file to add them, save, and re-start, they're still not there....

In Windoze, I'd suspect a virus, but this is Linux-

Whatsup with this??

You may want to consider a re-install from a usb stick.
Systems Windows XP Pro 32 bit & various Linux in Virtual Box and VMWare Player

How old is your hard drive? I never heard this and it seems .. well hard to believe really. But not uncommon.....http://superuser.com/questions/261306/w ... untu-10-04
Have you checked your filesystem for errors? Are you sure the /home partition is not full? Have you looked in .trash folders and elsewhere?

You may want to try "Memory test" in grub and if it says there are hard disk problems you may want to replace the hard disk.


The drives' a few years old...a WD 'warranty-replaced' Velociraptor- There's about 31GB free on the partition...

It looks to be fixed...I recovered the partition using an image I made from a different install (and iso), and the user-directories haven't vanished...yet :lol:
