Thanks Amir but I dont know how to boot up to make these things. I need some boot-up commands (arguments), I only could boot the dvd with options: nomodeset and xforcevesa and nothing else not work to start those dvd (to not get blank screen). Tried also this http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-fix-ubuntu-10-04-lts-lucid-blank-screen-at-startup.html

HDD locked up

Postby DarkSoul_DST » Mon Jun 07, 2010 1:20 pm

Was trying to get the ATI drivers to work yesterday in the 22 kernel to help someone out who posted they could not get them working.I had not done anything with the 22 kernel because it was buggy. When working with the drivers yesterday something locked up my HDD working on getting it unlocked without wiping everything with Kill Disk. When computer boots Bios finds the HDD but the Grub wont boot in .On Live CD gpart knows its there but cannot access it .It just says I do not have the permission to access it.Tried just a little bit ago to reinstall 2.6 to whole HDD and just reinstall everything but it still says access denied.I have a 500gig HDD but Gpart showing only 465gig now .It doesnt bother me to wipe everything because I backup on a Seagate Black Armor network drive .Just trying to figure out why the ATI driver could lock down a whole drive if it did not work.
Tried to run Kill Disk the HDD is locked down and will not let anything access it period. All it will say is I do not have permission to access it .Never seen anything that would not let Kill Disk right zeros to it.Will try later and take HDD out put in another computer and Fdisk it .Being that it is a Western Digital will install into a Windows machine and try the Utilities disk that comes with it.

Hello,
I have a Dell m6300 laptop Cor 2 Duo 2.0GZ, 4GB ddr2 ram, Nvidia Quadro 1600m video card, 500GB hd, with a Sony BDcombo drive and a broadcom gigabit eithernet card along with a broadcom wireless card with bluetooth.
I dual boot and have the drive partitioned in half with Window 7 ultimate on the first partition and Ultimate Edition 2.6 gamers edition on the second partition.

When I first installed Ultimate Edition 2.6 everything worked correctly after I installed the Nvidia drivers along with the broadcom wireless drivers using the proprietary hardware driver utility found on the system menu. I cannot remember exactly which driver it chose for the wireless at the moment and I cannot look at the moment as I am posting this while using my Windows 7 install so I can get on the internet.

for some reason it seems that the wireless card is being deactivated during the boot process. When I right click on the networking utility that is up on the upper panel to configure the wireless ssid and encryption keys etc the menu item "enable wireless networking" is grayed out and cannot be selected. I can still choose the wireless tab and put in the appropriate security keys etc but the actual hardware is turned off for some reason. How do I get this issue resolved? I know that there is probably a configuration file that needs to be edited but I do not know what or where it is. Is there a command from the command line that would do this?
Thanks for any help you can give,
Robert

that is something I have seen a lot lately.

110% positive it is a kernel bug.

did notice it looked to be corrected in 2.6.35.24 kernel.

upgrade to ubuntu 10.10 and Ultimate Edition 2.8.

I am ripping it down, Bnjamin_breeg said he had the exact same issue same % NTL. I assumed a bad disk / burn. He took a USB stick loaded with it and installed 100% (one of the local beta testers that called me and said ship it). I will have to look into it in greater detail. My apologies, I will build it again and test it on DVD. What do they say about assuming? I guess I brought in the new year wrong. I do not test on DVD medium I would go through a 1000 dvd's a month. Around here it is is much faster / beneficial to load a USB stick & I assure you if you load it on a USB stick it will finish.

That is not the point, I will fix whatever ails it. I apologize once again to the ~600 ppl that downloaded it. Thank God Distrowatch did not pick us up (I have password protected the post & ripped it off sourceforge, so should not happen). I am betting it was to due to replacing the kernel with the newest and ripping the original out (which is very beneficial as seen here & first time I have ever done so on any release it is very heavy). Ubiquity probably has a setting in it to point to the old kernel at 46% and can not find the old associated kernel. I do not understand what the difference it makes in the USB side, but will investigate & learn.

Once again I apologize, and will test it on both mediums next release. To me it is worth it, it is flawless once installed. I will make it right.

Sorry & thanks for being a TheeMahn fan. I am also sorry, I do not know everything & not perfect ;)

Thanks!!
I used a USB so it worked fine for me, wish I could have got the 32bit, I am sure it will be back :D

Best Regards
Shaun

P.S. This is being sent on 2.6.1 64bit it is great :D

Well I am pleased to know it is not just me. Downloaded twice ,loaded to usb numerous times using different methods, burnt image to dvd all with the same result 46% stop. :? :? :?

Hello all. :) Well... I used a DVD+RW on Ultimate Edition 2.6.1 x86 (32bit) and it finished installing to HDD and I am typing right now using that Ultimate Edition version!? Seems to be "hit or miss" for some reason? I very rarely use a USB to install to a HDD. I am curious to find out what was the final cause for this type of error. Please keep us updated. Peace. :)
