Hi, first i would like to say 2.6 looks and feels great. :D
However i have a problem with the cursor it is a large black arrow if i try and change it, it doesnt, the only way i can seem to get it to change is if i activate the ati graphics driver, then restart, it then wont start in normal mode all i get is a black screen and nothing else if at start up i select safe graphics mode i can get it to start and the cursor looks fine but the graphics card has been disabled so none of the goodies. the other problem is that when i select safe graphics mode no matter what i do i cant get the wifi card to be recognized so the only way i can run 2.6 on my laptop is to run with basic as is graphics, wierdly if i move the cursor over an open window say firefox the cursor reverts to its normal stylish self.(i am going to post in the network part with regards the wifi).
I have been running 10.04 and not come across this problem. :(
Just noticed as well that on my PC (installing 2.6 at the moment) when it goes into screen saver i get the mini Ultimate Edition logos spinning around i didnt get this on the laptop.

I got the same problem when I updated the ATI driver then I got a black screen and nothing else, the same as you although my curser is not acting up, just I can't update the driver, it keeps saying there is an updated driver available.

The driver that is installed through the hardware drivers utility appears to be broken, I would suggest the radeonHD driver instead if you don't have a 5xxx series card. If you do have a 5xxx series card, or you just want the official driver, the 10.4 catalyst drivers from the ATI website do work as well.
The black screen issue appears to be a 10.04 issue.

I had the same black screen problem so manually installed the ATI driver from ATI's web site. Just used the recovery boot and dropped to a root shell to install. Used the automatic install option. All appears to be working ok. I know it will probably break on the next kernel update but it's very easy to reinstall.

Cursor workaround in another post worked for me as well.

The black screen issue seems to be an ultimate edition issue. It doesn't happen in the final release of lucid.

Strange, Lucid has the black screen issues. What ATI card you you have serial joe?

Wait lets me say that better: Lucid x86 doesn't have that issue with radeon hd 4350 and I must assume the same can be said for all radeon 4xxx cards since one driver runs them all. I don't know about lucid x64 because I didn't have enough RAM 9until now to bother with 64 bit os. I do have a shot in the dark at the cause of the issue. I installed the driver from amd's website and installed it and poof it worked (the load up screen did seem a bit buggy though the OS loaded up fine) but I noticed I didn't have the catalyst control center so I went back and installed it and just it. When I went to load it up poof there is the black screen of death again. I won't say definitely but I will say it is possible that there is the issue.

But here is a question I will pose: Has anyone installed the final release (not the alphas, betas, or release candidates) and had this issue?

Is this based on the final release of lucid? I also noticed a file folder that said HAL. I didn't really look at it to hard and I didn't at all check if it was on lucid anywhere but I was under the assumption it was fully removed from Lucid.

Hi, I have Lucid 64 bit installed on my laptop with the ATI drivers and it is fine, I only get this issue in Ultimate Edition 64 bit, plus i get the cursor issue (i know the work around for that), However if i remember correctly Lucid uses .21 whereas Ultimate Edition 2.6 is .22 kernel this may well explain the problem. I may try to install the drivers by dropping to .21 (as per nvidia thread) cant do it now though not got the time.
