for some reason unbeknown to me my shift keys have stopped working, all other keys seem fine. i am set to use the standard uk keyboard layout that i always use and have never had to change though i see there are several uk options. anybody got any ideas please. i have tried other keyboards too and they are the same thanks.

Hi There long time no hear ! Sorry to hear that you have such an issue ! is your "caps lock" working ?

If any of the suggested suggestions up top didn't do the trick, you can always open up a terminal a type:

onboard

Doing this will launch a on screen keyboard which will enable you to use the shift keys!!

Look at the screen shot below for on an example:

yes my CAPS lock works fine thanks, i have tried other models of keyboard and also swapped the board itself with no joy. any ideas anybody

Also, Just came to me, In log in screen, At the bottom "keyboard" Click that , And set keyboard to your liking ! See if that helps !

Lol...mine did this also a while back.I have reinstalled sense then tho,but If I remember right if I turned off compiz the caps worked.Also I messed with the keyboard settings,and got my caps back...sorry I don't remember the details,but I feel for you....it was a real pain in the butt not having caps work.

One of your links provided the fix, it was the desktop effects that were causing me the keyboard problems. Thanks a lot.
