Shutdown requires Authentication

One thing I have noticed that is different with Ubuntu 9.10 is that every time I Restart or Shutdown, I am informed that an application requires Authentication and I must type in my Password and click on the Authentication tab.

Is there any way to get around this step?

I receive the error message:

"System Policy prevents Restarting while other users are Logged In"

It requires me to enter my password and hit Authenticate. If I hit Cancel, Logs me Out and takes me back to the Login screen.

Next time it appears, click "advanced" and click on the blue link.
Click the button under "implicit authorizations".
Set the 3 options to No, No, and Yes, that is, Active Console: Yes, others No.
You will no longer be asked for a password.

While you're at it, you can look at the other permissions on the left side. There's one for system-stop when multiuser, and another for system-restart when multiuser. To not be bothered by password when restarting, also set the same implicit authorizations for system restart.

I just did a Restart and got the prompt again for Authentication due to more than one user. I clicked on the Actions link and then on the Blue text that read Org.xxxxx.konsolelink - system restart multiple users, but nothing happens. I right clicked on the link and it gave me the option to Open link or Copy link.

Is there another way to access the parameters you mentioned that I could change?

I edited the policy file but it does not seem to have any effect on the Authentication message I receive when I select Restart.

I did not try running the suggested command listed in the lower part of the page.

A friend suggested that I had multiple X sessions running and to kill one, but I do not know how to check for this or kill the extra one, if it exists.

I am not very good with Command Line stuff. I am running Nvidia Beta driver 195.22 because it gives me the capability to correct for Overscan which has bee a problem since I started using my 50" HDTV as my only monitor.

By the way, I have not be able to get the Blue link to work at all. Nothing happens when I click on it.

You don't...at least I don't,and I have to go through the same hoops to reboot...but it doesn't bother me much.

Glad to see nvidia got the overscan right this time around.Do you plan on myth again?If you do beware that the new myth is quite buggy with scanning for channels.
