Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.4

Check this out if you have the same prob...[SOLVED]

Postby Wyndigo » Fri Nov 20, 2009 10:32 pm

Check My post under 2.4 titled "no disk" by Wyndigo
Alright Regular Ubuntu Karmic Koala does the same thing (no install, drive not showing etc..) sooo...Dunno what the issue may be will have to check ubuntu forums and possibly notify them may be a workaround already.
Just to let all now that read this I have Ultimate Edition 2.3 installed which I love and I know Karmic will install through upgrade but the overwrites Ultimate Edition..so will there possibly be a Ultimate Edition upgrade through ultimatix or regular repository? That would be great maybe you guys should consider it if possible please comment.

Update: Found this but still if I have a fresh formatted drive this shouldn't be a prob, but here is what I have found thus far:

Warning: Ubuntu Desktop edition installer no longer allows a custom installation of GRUB, and it now uses GRUB2, which allows very little customization. DO NOT USE the Karmic Koala Desktop edition if you use a boot partition, use multiple OS (more than 2), or chainload bootloaders. The Ubuntu installer will overwrite your Master Boot Record and you will later be forced to recreate it. This is a serious flaw in Karmic Koala. Use the Ubuntu Server edition instead (and then later add the ubuntu-desktop).

Grub2 found all my partitions, Win7 and OSX. Set them up perfectly. Background image set up nicely. Only thing I didn't like is the 'Beta' tag at the top.

Cheers.

Yeah not sure why I am having this issue...gonna upgrade my second drive 2.3 to karmic through synaptic and get it as close to Ultimate Edition as possible. The fact that it will upgrade through Synaptic and work perfectly for me kinda tells me that there must be a driver issue through clean install thinking possibly sata or nvidia..dunno til I do more research til then I will run regular ubuntu karmic and 2.3 Ultimate Edition.
P.S. any additional help would be greatly appreciated.

Now that I think about it if it were sata then drives wouldn't show under places menu much less Gpart..Will concentrate on nvidia...

Well I got my second drive updates to Karmic through synaptic..with everything working..but as you know this means Most Ultimate Edition was removed so I have a semi Ultimate Edition Ubuntu karmic mix..,but that still makes the fact that I can't do a clean install of Ultimate Edition 2.4 or ubuntu karmic even more suspicious...

Can anyone suggest what I should do to proceed, I am totally stuck now
Can you boot using LiveCD? If you can, then boot into the LiveCD environment. In the LiveCD environment, go to System - Administration - Synaptic
Once in Synaptic, search for "dmraid" and mark the first two dmraid packages for complete removal. This method worked for me.

Hi wyndigo,
Well done. Glad to hear you solved your issue. Thank you for coming back and sharing your solution with us - I'll see if I can move this to the how-to section to make it easier for others who have install/boot issues to find.

Thanks again.
