If i plug out the power supply and tray to runs on battery the computer stuck immediately .
also logging in on battery is impossible
runing safe mode on battery is impossible
I also tried the Live CD and as sone as the sytem recognizethe battery it's gets stuck .

I must say that with 2.3 there ware no problems.

Not a question, a warning. The 9.10 kernel (2.6.31-14) has a known error that causes certain laptop CPU fans to stop completely. there's a patched kernel and patch info available from the links below. This affects my acer Aspire 5720z, among others.

Hi All,

I have a Toshiba Satellite X205-9810 and I'm experiencing some trouble with the karmic install. I can install fine (although the liveCD takes an enormous amount of time to boot) but when trying to boot i get this error:

'/sbin/modprobe -b acpi:lnxvideo:' unexpected exit with status 0x0009'

at which point it hangs for several minutes before dropping me out to the command-line. I sometimes manage to get the GUI started but it's like playing lotto. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks much,
Chris

Hi Guys

I Still got this problem using the computer with battery only.
I installed "sensors" packages in edition to fix the problem.

that's how it looks like on synaptic
Image
now when I plug out the power supply the battery Icon changes and 2 seconds after the computer stucks.
it is possible to move the mouse around.
but the screen freezes as It is
also the login screen is terribly slow.
Does anyone have an idea how to fix It?

Assaf

hal deprecation

Ubuntu 9.10 Beta's underlying technology for power management, laptop hotkeys, and handling of storage devices and cameras maps has moved from "hal" (which is in the process of being deprecated) to "DeviceKit-power", "DeviceKit-disks" and "udev". When testing Ubuntu 9.10 Beta, please be alert for regressions in those areas and report any bugs you find.

Compaq Presario 2500 problems

Postby tyrannosaur » Mon Nov 16, 2009 11:35 am

I downloaded 2.4 to experiment with. The dvd loaded fine on my Compaq Presario 2500. I wiped the disk. Installed it using xfs 2 times. Grub kept reporting that it was unable to find the hardware to boot. I installed then using only the defaults, ext4, and the same error occured. I next split the HD in half, loaded 2.4, then I loaded 2.3 into the other partition. 2.3 worked great, 2.4 showed (in grub) generic linux version and when selected it would go to a dead zone in which not even the keyboard was functional. I did this trick 3 times. I also downloaded another 2.4 just to make sure that it was not an error on the dvd. I repeated the experiment and produced the same results. Any ideas of how to overcome this difficulty? OH, (edit) I forgot to mention that I also reversed the process, loaded 2.3 and then loaded 2.4... that returned a Grub Error in which nothing was listed or would boot (at least alone, 2.4 would give a grub screen, offer to load, only to go to an "cannot find hardware").
