Re: Problems with Xorg (Desperate help needed)

Insomnia, when you get home, go to the root promt as I described and write
Code: Select all
    sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf

It will ask for your password which won't be visible when typed.

edit your xorg.conf so i looks like this (it's edited with your data)
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Busid "PCI:4:00:0"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "sli" "auto"
Option "NoLogo" "True"
EndSection

Save your file in nano (the commands is in the bottom of the screen and as far as I remember it is ^o - which means: Ctrl + o (the letter o)

then type: reboot (if it don't reboot - then sudo reboot - can't remember)

Hope that work for you <BREW>

Right now it's under the Xorg Blue Screen control if you know what I mean :P . Meaning I'll have to re-install 2.2 after I do that, do I run the update manager and then do what you say or should I just do it right away (Or from the xorg blue screen of death :P)

I ran that some installations before and it didn't work since I followed the post you made first and that was the next step, but I'll try it anyways from where you advice unless you have a different idea.

you have just updated your pc and installed the driver, and at the following boot you can't reach your desktop, am I correct ?

But
Right now it's under the Xorg Blue Screen control if you know what I mean
that don't ring a bell :? I would suspect that you landet at a black screen with the last line saying some thing like: your_name@ your_name-desktop:~$

Exactly and when I followed your guide (not Amins cause I'm at work atm) it shoot up the xorg screen, then I logged in as root and instead of the PCI 03:00.0 I tried 04:00.0 and it didn't work either.

EDIT: By the way I wrote in the PCI thingy as "PCI: 03:00.0" do the points and the zeros make a difference? I mean I just wrote it like that maybe that's why I had it wrong? I don't know.

Well, I suspect you have your error there "PCI: 03:00.0" don't cut it, it has to be "PCI: 03:00:0"
It has to be a colon and not full stop (hope it what it's called in english) 8-) It has to be exactly and precise what I wrote to work ;)

Edit: What you define is which of the two cards who is in charge. Choosing 03:00:0 or 04:00:0 is less important.

If you don't run it from Grub but run it from "The black screen of death" as you call it  so just to be sure start with this because Im not sure if the the desktop is running or not at that point. But the command don't do any harm if it don't run.
Code: Select all
    /etc/init.d/gdm stop

Well, I'm curious to see tomorrow if it works, but I'm pretty sure. ;)
Hope you post either way :)

MAN.... IT FRIGGIN WORKED!!!!!!!.... I'M SOOO HAPPY <BREW> <BREW> :D  <BREW>

It was very simple! I started in Recovery Mode, and then did the Sudo Nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf ... after that I played a bit with the BusID .... And it Totally worked with "PCI:3:00:0" just like that all stuck up together, it works fantastic! Also the Compiz Fusion is a breeze!

Guys I love you *cries* :P Thanks alot guys keep up the good work and I really really appreciate this!

If anyone is having this prob I hope this really help you guys out there :D
