Just before it freezes try unplugging your ethernet cable. When it is scanning the mirrors it will freeze up sometimes. If that doesn't work post you complete specs using this:

Maybe Ultimate doesn't like some of your hardware and we could have a work around for you. You can install using a usb flash drive as well.

Thanks for the quick replies. I did do a search for install freez, and came up with nothing, so I posted.
Also tried on second pc with same results. Freezes at 95% "installing language packs"
"running post-installation trigger initramfs-tools"

Thanks
Ed

This is not a WUBI install, is it? Could be a bad burn, or corrupt download...have you checked the md5sum? Tried burning another copy at slower speed? Just for grins, have you hit and continued to hit "enter" when it freezes? I don't know what that might do, but waaay back when, seems like I remember this as a post???

Tryed again on the first and also a 3rd pc- same thing. I
downloaded v 2.0, and that install worked fine.
In fact , i'm using it for this post.
Thanks again, but now I'll have to figure out all this Linux stuff. Never used it before.

You should be able to install from a usb flash drive. This will avoid any disc error. A 2 gig will to the job. There is a tool included with the live 2.1 disc called create a usb startup disc(under Administration). Then just go into your bios and have your computer boot from usb. I install using this all the time and it is much easier and faster. In fact, I'll be doing just that later today on a friend's pc. I have the same chipset as you so I doubt if it is a hardware issue. Optical drives are very quirky so try the usb thing.

If your using Wubi, then that might pose a problem. I had the same issue when i was installing Ultimate Edition 2.1 x86 from Wubi!! I recommend booting from CD and install from the live session. If that don't work, then try tapping the "Esc Key" on your keyboard when you reach at the hanging point!!

Since it's hanging at the same point on 3 different pc's, then you should burn another DVD even slower than you already have (if that's possible)...I've burned Ultimate .iso's with perfect md5sum's and still ended up having to reburn on a couple of occaisions ...and if you are doing a wubi install, forget it, it's only going to install the vanilla Ubuntu from the internet anyway...Wubi is included in Ultimate, but only as a last resort for some who have to add the Ultimate themes and such via Ultamatix...

MrRoo wrote:I'm having exactly the same problem, and I wish I could find an answer that works on this forum and what the hell is a Wubi and I know how to do a decent burn. The DVD works fine as a stand alone it's when it reaches the trigger intramfs-tools it just bricks, and I've tried pressing keys unplugging Ethernet cables. it a bug please let me know when it's fixed and I'll try again. In the meantime I'll try W7

As far as WUBI, why don't you try google...you want help? don't come in here throwing rocks! Just because you know how to burn something doesn't mean you have a good burn, burn speed is very important to a viable ISO!There are literally thousands of people who have successfully burned and installed this version...so where is the bug??? Perhaps it can be attributed to operator error, or hardware that's not supported...did you even check anything out? Good luck with W7...and have a nice day :D
