Flash Player Fail

Hey guys.

I just installed UE2.1 x64 today. I'm fairly new to this Linux stuff but I got everything installed and it was all working great. LAN and Sound worked out of the box and NVidia drivers followed shortly. It was working great. I installed the Flash player for Firefox and it was working well also. Then something happened. Some updates went through and now Flash Player doesn't seem to be working. If there is a flash video on a website it just shows up as a big black empty spot. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash plugins both via the command line and by uninstalling it and having firefox find the plugins and installing them itself again. Neither seems to work. Videos will play in say VLC or other video players.

Thanks for the help,

Jake

You need to log in as root: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=1682
Then download the Adobe flash plugin from here: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html
Unzip the tarball and copy the .so flash file to your web browser's plugin folder. You should be good to go after that............

Thank You so much! It worked. I assume Firefox was trying to install a 32-bit version? I tried downloading it and it kept saying invalid architecture or something. Also I made a folder called Plugins and it didn't seem to work until I renamed it to plugins. I didn't know folders could be cap sensitive!

Thanks again. You saved me from going back to Windows!!!!!!!!

' You saved me from going back to Windows!!!!!!!!'
That could be a fate worse than death. I need my daily fix of Linux or I go into withdrawal.

'Me too. Tried sticking with Vista Ultimate x 64 for the last couple of days to see what it's like but soon came back to UU'
Let's face it, MS is more trouble than it's worth. I fix computers and I have more headaches with Windows boxes in a week than I would have in 10 years with Linux. I'm trying to talk my neighbors into having me build them a new computer so their old one can be used by their 5 year old daughter. She is getting Ultimate instead of Windows because I'm getting sick and tired of fixing their Windows box on a monthly basis.

When using Windows just turn off the security center, automatic updates, system restore, page filing, and the firewall and don't do any updates. Then install Avast anti virus and Comodo firewall. With Comodo you can close all your incoming ports and make Windows somewhat secure. All the Windows updates are just security patches for their swiss cheese of an operating system, anyway. Nothing useful or cool, just band aides for a badly flawed system. With Ultimate, you just open up a terminal and type sudo ufw enable and all your ports are closed.
p.s. Don't use Vista. If you must use Windows use XP SP2 or SP3(this has all the updates). Vista is the biggest piece of crap and Windows 7 looks worse. You now need a minimum of 1 gig of ram to run it and a fast graphics card. Ultimate will run on 384 megs of ram and a so so graphics card. XP will run on 256 megs of ram if you tweak it. Boy I miss the days of Windows 98. You could get away with a PIII no problem.....

Windows 98 was running pretty fast even on 128mb of ram, very stable and had the best windows' defragmentation tool.

Try installing ubuntu-restricted-extras or flash plugin non free. Or un install gnash. The Adobe Flash Player is supposed to work with Seamokey as well. If you have followed the instructions posted above it should work.
