I highly agree with your comment and I am a huge fan of MATE. Not so much Cinnamon or KDE. The philosophy of the desktop getting out of the way is what I initally was drawn to with Gnome 2. Plus customizing is simple and readily available to the user. KDE is very customizable and has proven to run more efficient in its recent releases and has a huge following. But all in all it's personal preference. As Linux users we are all very lucky to even have a choice. I am grateful and I believe 3.5 was an answer to broader range of users. It's admirable knowing that such a wide range of considerations have been taken to please the masses, and just shows how much Ultimate Edition cares about it's fan base. I know I'm looking forward to whatever comes next, no matter what the desktop...
