So the answer is ?

This is one of the most frustrating thing about Linux (not specifically Ultimate Edition), regardless of how well systems are setup, you will have to go looking through forums for answers from time to time. I love it when people take the time to update a thread that it's SOLVED and clearly mark the ANSWER. There may be a log of intervening discussion but many times people just want the answer. Enough ranting, I meant this more as a "Thank You" to the folks who provide the many answers to the many of us struggling to get proficient in Linux.

So what is the answer? How do I set the SMB workgroup?

Hello rickzoll.

You will have to go to your smb.conf end to EDIT the file like here:

[global]
workgroup = GAMMA
server string = %h server (Samba %v)
dns proxy = no
log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
max log size = 1000
syslog = 0
panic action = /usr/share/samba/panic-action %d
security = share
encrypt passwords = true
passdb backend = tdbsam guest
obey pam restrictions = yes
invalid users = root
passwrd program = usr/bin/passwd %u
socket options = TCP_NODELAY

[shared files]
comment = Shared Files
path = /home/shared files
writable = yes
guest ok = yes

[homes]
comment = Home Directory
browseable = yes
writable = no
create mask = 0775
directory mask = 0775
