Installing UE2.0 fails with WUBI in WP

Installing UE2.0 fails with WUBI in WP

Postby PaulUbuntu » Fri Feb 20, 2009 4:44 am

First off, the regular flaver(dist.) of Ubuntu 8.10 will install inside XP, ofcouse using wubi.

When trying to install Ultimate Edition 2.0 it fails!
In Wubi I tried installing with the larges(30 GB) installation size on E:(123 GB free.)
I get the following after rebooting as asked;
Some of the partitions you created are too small. Please make the following partitions at least this large
(in bytes);
/5324946432
/usr 4635979776
If you do not go back to the partitioner and increase the size of these partitions, the installation may fail.
(Go Back really doesn't do anything) | Go Back | | Continue |

(Continued)
The installer encountered an error coping file to disk:
(errno 28) No space left on device.
This is due to there being insufficient disk space for the
install to complete on the target partition. Please run the
installer again and select a larger partition to install into.

(I also tried defragging the drive using JkDefrag-3.36 with no luck.)
The next screen show the same is if you booted from the DVD to run/install. I was just seeing if installing inside XP worked with Ultimate 2.0 for others to use.

Wubi borked my XP install so I do not recommend it. Dual boot or run in a virtual environment with VMPlayer or Virtualbox.
If you are installing Ultimate, allow for at least 40 gigs of space.
The live disc includes GParted which will partition your hard drive very quickly.
I always set up my partitions before I install anything(including a decent sized swap on a low ram computer) . That way you ensure success. You may want to verify your disc burn was successful by verifying the checksum of the iso file with GtkHash(under accessories with the live disc).
If you are using Windows, use Nero to burn your images(I don't get many bad burns using it).
