There are a few ways. From a terminal type su(and then your password) or you can log in as root.
To log in as root go to users and groups(System-Administration)
Click on root and unlock using your password
Click on root again and select properties and set a root password by hand
Close that out
Go to Login Window(System-Administration)
Click on Security and check Allow local system administrator login
Close that out
Log out and then back in as root with the root password.
Keep in mind that your system is far less secure when you run as root(still much safer than Windows is).
Make all the changes you want and then log back with your user name and password.

When you first installed Ultimate on your computer, you were asked for a name for your computer and a password...you had to type the password in twice, that is the password you must use... if you lost it somehow...read this...http://forumubuntusoftware.info/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1888
a nice how-to on recovering a lost password...perhaps if you tell us what you are trying to do that requires a password, we can give you more help...sudo..su gives you permission as an administrator to make changes to the computer and operating system...for instance adding or removing programs, deciding what files others might be able to access or change on your computer...etc.
Edit: I found another that I have used before...http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword

Here is what you will need to open a ".rar" file http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/open-rar-file-or-extract-rar-files-under-linux-or-unix/
If you are in the terminal, and type a command that returns the message that you don't have permission, type the command again, this time with "sudo" in front of it..if the command is valid, you will get a prompt for password...this is the password you used when you installed.

If you can't remember your password, how did you get into your Ultimate install?
Why don't you try the logging in as root method I explained above and try installing your program again.
