No internet connection ( SOLVED )

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.9

No internet connection ( SOLVED )

Postby tilen2009 » Thu Jan 08, 2009 2:59 am

Hi everyone!

At first I must say that I'm total analfabet when it comes to problems with linux.
Yesterday I installed Ultimate Edition 1.9 on my laptop for thefirst time and I couldn't get internet connection to work.
I have at home cable internet that is connected to my comp with ethernet cable.
All I know is, that because of my service provider I can't use settings to detect internet connection via DHCP protocol. I entered all IP adresses and DNS servers but it still won't work.
Could anyone PLEASE help?!
Thanks!

Open a terminal and type:

pppoeconf

Once you are done setting it up, do:
pon
poff

to connect/disconnect.

I used to have to do this, but once we got a router, I didn't have to anymore :D A router makes it pathetically easy.

Rather than type the command each time:
Create a launcher on your desktop for pon, call it whatever you want but put pon in the command line. That way you need only to double click it to connect. You could do the same for poff or just let run till you shut down the box.

It's done!!!
Thanks for the help, but I must say, that "pppconf" didn't work.
After that, at boot screen I selected to boot with recovery mode and then the updates were
installed and everything worked.

For TheeMahn I must say: Keep up the good work and thanks!

I'm not sure how to activate or when to activate the recovery mode option, but I'll check it out.
