Updating problems

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.9

Lol...

Well, I'm glad someone around here is not walking around the forums looking like the Headless Horseman. :D

I'm wanting to make Ultimate Edition my "Official" OS of choice and get rid of WinBlows once and for all. I am really starting to like the look and functionality of Ubuntu.

Oh, one more question. Does the installer install the SMP Kernel on Dual/Tri/Quad Cores by default?

Wasn't like a secret or anything but I really support the torrent concept, we have unlimited space and bandwidth for now, we will see how it holds up, I uploaded over 20gb in one day and well downloaded it as well I guess. I try to run the torrent seeds as well but I was so busy resetting up servers with Thee Mahn I don't have the bandwidth right now. It seems like on a new release for the first 2 weeks give or take you can get 1.0mb/s to 2.0mb/s on torrents. (10 -20 mb down for those that never see those speeds) I wont attempt to do the byte, bit, 8 bits in a byte math thing but a rough estimate is move the decimal over 2 places
(100kb/s = 1mb)(150kb/s = 1.5mb) ballpark but close enough.

The correct way to calculate it is to take your initial "bit" and divide that number by 8 to find your actual speed, or your "byte"...

Roughly a 10mb connection will get ~1.25MB/s download speeds, not including your burst rates. :p

10 / 8 = 1.25

My connection on the other hand is a 15mb connection(Down Rate)... I usually get everyday download speeds of around 1.9MB/s..

15 / 8 = 1.875

Well class, that's all for today. Come back tomorrow and let's see what else we can learn.

Let's go grab a cold one. <BREW>

Re: Updating problems

Postby tuxsax » Wed Oct 15, 2008 3:17 am

I know the repos were down and I commented the two lines untill I've heard they're back online, then I uncommented the lines, made an update and all is working fine.
But I still can't get the "Update" script to work, I keep getting the error message.
Does anybody here know how to fix it? I'd like to make it work, I want to upgrade to "Gamers Edition" and so.
Thanks,
Ziv

I must be the only one here that can get updates. I got my nice shiny new Ultimate Edition 2.0 splash and everything. Installed even more updates this morning. Unless the repo just went down, or unless I have a connection directly to the repo, then it is up. The only thing I did to update is use Synaptic and mark all upgrade instead of using the update manager. I haven't tried the upgrade icon yet so I don't know about it.

Here are screen shots of me using the Ultimate Edition repo and down loading Tile Racer from the repo. The repo is working fine. As a matter of fact, Tile Racer downloaded and installed before I could finish this post.

Prob. got something to do with the script referencing an old repo or something. This is something that TheeMahn will have to address.
