Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.9

takes long time to get to logout/restart/shutdown...

Postby brjoon1021 » Fri Sep 26, 2008 12:38 am

Hi,

I have 1.9 64 bit installed. This is a new issue, was not happening a couple of weeks ago. Since then I have only done the typical synaptic updates. What happens is if I either select the shutdown button that I added to the panel or select system > quite, it can take several seconds or even appear to lockup for nearly 20 seconds.
This is a desktop, by the way.

Any ideas ?

You know, this happened to me about a year ago...really never was able to pin-point the poblem then, figured it was a bad install. But since you have been running it and this has just started...
Did you change your Icon theme? Or even your theme itself?

I have witnessed the same in the past and was attributed to me removing a service, however I can not remember which one, If I remember or if I can find where I posted it in the past I will come back here and tell you which service. Nick may indeed be right. It has been a long time ago.

Sorry I can not currently be of much help...

Thanks guys, that fixed it. It was the service that I had turned off. But, around the same time I started getting an error when I boot in XFCE and I am still getting it:

"Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'. Without the GNOME settings manager running, some preferences may not take effect. This could indicate a problem with Bonobo, or a non-GNOME (e.g. KDE) settings manager may already be active and conflicting with the GNOME settings manager."

* I have the edition of 1.9 64 that has KDE, XFCE and Gnome, by the way.

Any idea what I need to do?
