I have 1.9 64 bit installed. This is a new issue, was not happening a couple of weeks ago. Since then I have only done the typical synaptic updates. I have witnessed the same in the past and was attributed to me removing a service, however I can not remember which one, If I remember or if I can find where I posted it in the past I will come back here and tell you which service. Nick may indeed be right. It has been a long time ago.
Sorry I can not currently be of much help...
