Installation freezing at 15%

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.9

Installation freezing at 15%

Postby natman777 » Thu Sep 25, 2008 6:06 pm

I just downloaded Ultimate 1.9. I burned it to a disk and booted the live cd. When I click install I go through the set up and during the installation it freezes at 15%. I don't know if there is a way to install without booting the livecd.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

I burned the disc using nero and I did it at 4X. I think it might be my ram, I only have 512mb. I am using a Compaq Presario c500. And I got the 32bit version.

That is more than likely your issue. I think there might be an option to instantly install instead of load a live session first.

Natman: Why don't you try setting up a 1 gig swap partition. This may just do the trick. I managed to install 1.7 with a PIII(320 megs of ram with a 640 meg swap partition). Of cource 1.8 and 1.9 were out of the question. The worst case senario is you would be able to install 1.7 which is very good as well. In some ways the nicest looking. You can always update all the software once you get it installed.

Desktop effects could not be enabled

Postby natman777 » Fri Sep 26, 2008 9:19 am

Thanks guys I got it fixed. I just booted the livecd and deleted my whole hard drive and made a 2gb partition at the end of my drive and it seemed to work after that. But now I'm having some problem enabling desktop effects. It says "Desktop effects could not be enabled" I had them enabled in Ubuntu 8.04 but for some reason it wont work on Ultimate 1.9. Please help if you can.

Thanks!

Your on board video may not be up to snuff. Most on board video is only 64 megs of shared video ram. I have a newer Asus board with an Intel chip set with 200+ video ram. The latest Asus/Intel chipset boards offer up to 384 on board video ram(which is pretty good unless you want to play high end video game-which I don't).

The desktop effects worked perfectly with ubuntu 8.04.Does Ultimate require a better graphics card?

Your video card(Intel graphics media accelerator 950) should be more than enough to run it.
Try playing with the compiz-fusion settings and see what happens.
So you have set up a 2 gig swap partition is that correct?

No, Actually I setup a 1.4 gig swap partition. How do I get to the compiz-fusion settings?
