apt Configuration Problem

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.9

apt Configuration Problem

Postby szaemon » Mon Sep 08, 2008 9:27 pm

I received this error message when installing 1.9:

an attempt tp configure apt to install additional packages from the CD failed.

Is there anything I should do about it?

I'm probably wrong, but what I would do is leave it for now and complete installation.

Once done, open terminal and type: sudo apt-get update

Once finished, sudo apt-get upgrade

That should fix problems with apt.

Cheers

You have the Ultimate Edition CD selected to be part of your software sources used for installing applications. Go to System>>Administration>>Software Sources and make sure that it is not selected to be used. See my screen shot ... what it highlighted should NOT be ticked.

Thanks, but this did happen during the initial installation from the CD. Isn't it suppose to be copying files from the CD? In future installs, should I uncheck the CD while I'm installing off the Live CD? As far as that screen on my computer, I don't actually see that as an option. My looks like this:

Well I can' tell you if you were wrong or not but, those commands certainly did something. A bunch of stuff downloaded and installed so I guess my missing pieces of apt were filled in.
Thanks Again.

The reason I posted that is because this has happened to me, so I thought for sure that was the reason. Especially since your original post said, "an attempt tp configure apt to install additional packages from the CD failed."

This is something very uncommon when doing the initial install of Ultimate Edition. I figured that you were trying to install some packages via 'apt-get' or something. Didn't realize that you got these errors during your install of Ultimate Edition  As a matter of fact, I didn't know that you could make a repair to a 'Live Session' with apt-get update/ upgrade. Why would you make a repair durring a live session, it wouldn't write it to disc. So.... long story short.... You got me confused with the issue you were having. Sorry :!:

No need for apologies, I'm the one asking for help remember. As for the error message, I have no real idea what it means or what exactly wasn't able to be completed during the install. I only know that I hit the install icon, went through the set up procedures and just before the whole thing was completed I got that error message. I clicked OK to acknowledge the message, then install completed. I don't know what was (or still is) lacking but the system seems to be coming along OK...Still working out kinks, ipod,printer,video,...the biggest problem is figuring out how not to get redirected to Japanese Websites...well that and the ipod...
Thanks for your help.
