Apt configuration bad?

Postby cincyfan43 » Fri Aug 22, 2008 1:31 pm

Hi,
First thanks to TheeMahn for a great distro...it's awesome. After install a got an error that said that the apt configuration was bad...then a window popped up and told me to do a partial upgrade to fix. Is this a bad burn problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

ok cowboy that looks good. that shouldnt pose any problem. usually when it asks to do partial upgrade its because of dependency issues. aptitude dist-upgrade always seems to solve it.

were you getting the same warning as the original poster?

ok now something isnt right here. with cowboy it wanted to install a few things but nothing to remove. with cincyfan43 it wants to remove a crap load but not install anything.

maybe try running

Code: Select all
sudo aptitude update

then

Code: Select all
sudo aptitude dist-upgrade

if that dont trigger anything then it is beyond me why it wants you to do a partial upgrade.

just for the hell of it what do your guys sources.list look like?

Code: Select all
gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

also do you have a apt.conf file?

@cowboy

im pretty much lost. i cant think of what the problem could be or even a solution. i seen that shot in our thread. i have nvr seen that happen period. its too bad we cant run teh installer in text mode...im sure we would get ALOT more info. i mean in sure there is a way but its beyond me as to how to invoke it. i havent tried 1.9 yet as my burner decided to die.

as far as the apt file i was talking about it would be /etc/apt/apt.conf i was just ruleing out this as a problem. the file isnt needed at all but i notice sometimes it jus seems to appear out of nowhere. apt always seems to function fine without it so this isnt an issue.

sorry i cant be of more help.
