Thanks for the info Nick. I got Songbird doing the basic job though, I don't care for the dark format and I haven't figured out if there are any "smart playlist" options like iTunes.

I personally think that Amarok is the best solution for your iPod syncing needs and it does have lots of different options for playlists and such. Its the closest thing to iTunes that your going to get. I think its a great player. I have setup my daughters shuffle with it without problems.

I started up Amarok, true it does have a lot of options, but I still didn't find anything like the smart playlists in iTunes.

Err...uhmmm...Uh,no we didn't. In fact Rhythmbox was the reason I came hear for help. (though at the time I didn't know it's name) Rhythm box is the program that opens automatically each time I plug in my ipod. It just says Music Player at the top not Rythmbox, so I didn't know its name until now . It looks good because I immediately see the smart playlists that I recognize from iTunes and I see my ipod listed in the side column. But I couldn't (and still can't) find anyway to actually sync it.
Where is the sync button?

Nick wrote:Rhythmbox is set as the default application for iPods in Ubuntu, and as such it will automatically appear once your iPod is connected to your machine and mounted by your system. All you have to do then is click the IPOD icon in the left pane of the Rhythmbox window, and you can see the contents of your iPod. Click the small arrow to the right of the IPOD icon in the left pane, and you can also see your collection of playlists. But other than all that seeing, there isn't much more you can do with your iPod via Rhythmbox. As far as I can see, there's no syc option.

Baph? Anything to say "in defense of the underdog"?
