Why don't you start clicking on some things and see what happens?

None of the effects will work until I go to System > Preference > Appearance > Visual Effects and click on the Extra option. But I cant because when I click on it my screen flashes and it says "Desktop effects could not be enabled" and it goes back to the None setting.

Actually my screen doesn't flash but my windows that are pulled up do.
When i run lspci | grep -i vga I get:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

Im guessing thats m video card?

If every thing is working correctly, when you click on compiz icon, it will place the icon on the top panel on the right side... Then if you right click on this it will open the compiz settings manager (along with some other settings like "emerald") When you right click and open Compiz settings manager, you can adjust many of the settings for Compiz. On another note, every time I have clicked the Compiz icon, my screen blinks also, I think this is what happens as it loads compiz???

When I go to System > Administration > Hardware Drivers the only driver listed is my wireless driver and something called wl which is enabled. When I run lspci | grep -i vga in the terminal i get:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

I don't know if that helps you or not.

Thanks
