@cowboy, yes I did defrag it, you actually didn't take that long to get back to me, and I will take a look at the links and see if there's anything I can do

pch.shot, I don't believe in backing up, I don't keep anything on em that I'm not prepared to lose, besides I love a good reinstall. The set up for a Raid in Ubuntu looks a bit complicated for a complete novice such as myself

However I have the other pc running Ultimate now, so I can prat about with that. One thing I have noticed is the font does not look very smooth is there anything I can do with that?

Oh and I've also lost my close and minimise buttons and the ability to type in search boxes ie add/remove applications

bobframpton, you can change the fonts..right click the desktop..click change desktop background..themes..fonts ;)

And to add to this question, are you running compiz?, because if you are, try these steps... open compiz settings manager, and scroll down to effects, and in the middle row at the bottom make sure window decoration is checked, if that does not fix it, the next step I take is under Window Management...last row, second down is Place Windows... this setting allows you to center the window, so that the top panel isn't hidden

And just for grins, the "thingy" is called ccsm (compiz manager) easiest way to this is thru Applications>System tools> select Compiz Fusion Icon...now notice that a little Blue Box with a white arrow on your top right panel, right click this and wha-hoo your'e there :D

I don't know about brilliant!!! just messed mine up enough to know where to look :lol: :lol: And ain't it great, that you can do that and get back to where you want to be without having to pay someone at Microsoft????
