edit..automatix is not at the present set up for Hardy..at least to my knowledge

I am sorry to say it seems something breaks it in upgrade process. (pressing that icon thing :) )
It's updated to include automatix.

my current, MODIFIED one here,
(added 2 harty lines, commented automatix essentially, other commented don't mind please.
Anyway I didn't know which repositories to enable.)

WARNING!

LOOK CAREFULLY - MIGHT BE BROKEN BY A LATER UPDATE / BREAK AN UPDATE.
It's not a "for use" thing.

Do not use ANY automatix.
I had originally FEISTY automatix after upgrade. IT WAS ERRORED.

The others are just in case those will be needed to fix a thing - if being told so later.
DO NOT ADD ANY ADDED AUTOMATIX LINE.

Yet another edit: To clarify, the red color was essentially only to warn that I don't "really" know the solution, hence I didn't recommend at that time to blindly try what I tried.

Long story short .....
Code: Select all
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

comment out (# in front of line) all listings for automatix. There should not be one there. This is not supported in Hardy or Harty. Automatix is NOT required for obtaining any additional software that you can't get through other means or by adding an additional repository (trevinos, etc.)
- Once you comment the automatix lines out save the file and close.
-Open a terminal window and
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update

This will get things squared away with the sources.list.

Wow, the raw amount of posts and views here... The breakdown now begins... I lost a hard disk in case you have not read this elsewhere, I lost all my "work" of every Ultimate Edition I have ever made, it is a good thing I had a disk burnt of Ultimate Edition 1.8 x64 otherwise I would have had to start over, I ripped this disk to an iso and uploaded it. This disk was perfect minus 2 things, I will address both issues right now.

1. The Ultimate repo is not included in your sources.list

terminal:
Code: Select all
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

add the following to the bottom of your list (note it is spelled different & on purpose):
Code: Select all
deb http://reposubuntusoftware.info/ harty all #Ultimate Repo

2. automatix... Does not exist in any ubuntu gusty+
search for a line that says automatix and put a # symbol in front of it.

I will soon be re-writing automatix. You will have support, you can read more about that here, I hate repeating myself ;) Sorry for the errors, it was either the 2 errors or start over...

Hi TheeMann,

no problem. I'll fix my sources list right away. Can I now use the upgrade button? I'll try it and post my results later.

Thanks for your help.

----Pros----
To me it doesn't look like a nuclear holocaust happened after running it without the 3rd party sources properly introduced. Apt wont install anything with out all its parts. I may Re-install just to be safe(after backing up my themed configuration, compiz, gnome,exc.).
----Cons----
I think I'll be using getdeb.net or synaptic for a while.
Missing folder in the update script.. not sure why it's not looking for "the" ~ folder (searches for the "root home folder" could be a problem with gksu ).

When using the 3d cube in compiz-fusion how does one eliminate the flickering polygons? Its a mild annoyance. (TheeMahn might have mentioned this.. if so, its not the video drivers since Im running w/ATI)
----Oddities:?: ----
As for the envy-ng problems crashing seems to have been eliminated on their own (quite odd, possibly after package update).

I am confused though where the fish tank compiz plugin went. Since synaptic said the extra plugins were installed.
----Overall----
Very pleased! I'm sure this is edition is solid as titanium (unlike windows.. snicker). Much improved in this version even with some plugins in Compiz-fusion. Only see a spike on my cpu use when using the 3d cube and when drawing fire. Keep it up!

Just a clarification:

No, it's not a big deal ofc :) and now the solution is even found :)

I only did not know what to do and if I do it right to fix it, and what happens if I kept it and what happens if I changed.
(and NOT related to Ultimate Edition, it seems Nvidia doesn't like to stably support my graphic card :P :( )

OFC I appriciate The Mehn's work :) I like Ultimate Edition :)
It's a minor and even easily fixable issue.
OFC I know about the hard disc mishap* :(
I didn't blame anyone here at all!, only "panicked", as usual when I am not sure what to do :P

*It's actually pretty amazing he could release a (so nice) OS based on a new kernel (8.04) under those conditions...

I'll fix my own sources.list by self too :)
Thank you for your help and for a great OS :D

P.S.
Thank you also for considering to write automatix!!! ;) wow

Hi All,

first, thanks for all the help!
I found a solution to my problem. I couldn't play any video in totem or listen to music. Apparently it's a bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/191027 I switched my sound device to ALSA and now totem and rythmbox work. Still can't use amarok, same xine error, and youtube doesn't work with firefox, it does work in totem however, so I think there must be a solution for this.
But for now, I'm ok :D

Greetz
