1.7 Update Manager ..UPGRADE ?

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

1.7 Update Manager ..UPGRADE ?

Postby cowboy » Sat Apr 26, 2008 1:55 pm

To those who are tempted to use the upgrade to 8.4....Please Don't
You will not get a 1.8 Ultimate Edition , you will however get a mess to play around with...wait for the release by TheeMahn.
Fact:
1683 upgrades
121 pkgs. removed

Even with a high speed internet connection took 5.5 hours, and the final result was not worth the time spent, at least for myself..but maybe for others.
Wait for the 1,8 release, enjoy the excellent running 1,7, till the 1.8... ;)

You can believe that. You know someone had to try. I did yesterday and it locked up half way through. Then the system wouldn't boot. At least I burned a copy of 1.8 so I could load it on my system to play with.

I'm either brave or stupid but I went for it figured I could just redo 1.7 if it went bad. seems about 98% good I have a few things but I Just did this and I believe I can resolve the few issues I have.
I would not suggest anyone do this unless your ready to start from scratch. I had all day to kill and went for it.

I talked to cab on the phone after he did this, what he is not telling you is he changed the repo (unposted / known by anyone other then him / admin perhaps), I will touch bases on this later, of course he is indeed on a high speed connection 2000 KPS down & dual core intel, so yes it is indeed nothing to him & quite smart. Obviously he doesn't care if he has to re-install.

I watched him though VNC download Ultimate Edition Gamers almost 4GB in 30 minutes, so he does not care. I suggest waiting for an "official" post. He is far from dumb, so if he had a problem I am sure he would have fixed it in a terminal which he is capable of, I do not want people trying to do what he has archived as a newbie. You do as posted at your own risk. Let me tell you how smart he is, he knows where my repo is for hardy w/o me even telling him, him & 198 others. Compared to over 1/2 a million otherwise. I can see the stats.

Sit tight,

TheeMahn

yep, i'm someone else who totally spaced and stupidly upgraded to Hardy.
it didn't even cross my mind one time that it wouldn't work correctly to upgrade my Ultimate 1.7 until i was already past the point of no return.
of course now i'm completely screwed and the computer is a mess. i have to do a clean install now. $@#&!!!
don't be like me! wait for the ultimate upgrade!
i suppose i'll have to go back to windoze for a while until 1.8 is released, 'cause i REALLY don't want to go through it all twice.

whoops already did the upgrade to Hardy. Did it last night. I haven't been here in a bit but I am using Ultimate Edition full time now (grin) I didn't realize 1.8 was around the corner. I must be very lucky as I have had no problems at all. Mind you it did take several hours but all seems good here. Oh!!!! I am now wireless too ...............It was SO easy with Ultimate Edition
