smuggly,
did you try setting your IP "manually" as a Static IP? Don't know if that would help or not. I had a similar problem with Ultimate Edition 2.1, and had to set it up with a Static IP and all worked fine afterward. I have a LAN with 5 PCs, 2 Networked printers, and Networked Storage device enclosure. Could not see any of them til I set a Static IP.
Can you Ping any of the other systems from then one with the problem? What does youe network equipment consist of - Router brand (ie Linksys, D-Link, etc...)
Give me some info and maybe I can assist.

smuggly,
2.1 is great. I run 2.1 X64 and I love it. However... If you're gonna go ahead and load 2.1, why not get Ubuntu 9.04, and add the Themes for 2.2, us Ubuntu Tweak, and install a sort of "clone 2.2", and be sure to use the new EXT4 file system. This thing makes my 64 bit system sing like never before! Absolutely Awesome! And, it is proving to be more stable than UE2.1/Ubuntu 8.10. You can get all the Themes for 2.2 and 2.1, and tuxsax has assembled a really fat theme pack that you can get here: http://www.adrive.com/public/c0f1536b7e ... 8278e.html. You can get the 2.2 theme pack from A-drive, but I think you'll have to login to get this one UserName is [email protected] PW is TheeMahn2003. Just open the Programs folder and Right-click on the Theme Pack you want and select download. I'm not sure if tuxsax included it in the "big" one, it's around 500MB download. There are plenty of posts in this forum from mods and admins with good info about doing this. It is really worth the trouble.
Good luck whichever "path" you choose... Let me know which you choose and how it goes..
