Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

Media Player by Viewpoint

Postby dragonfly » Tue Oct 07, 2008 10:02 am

I am researching my family tree and when I visit the Nova Scotia Historical Vital Statistics web site and try to view death records I get a message saying "-- Media Player by Viewpoint-- Sorry, your browser and/or OS is not supported ". What is available to me to correct this problem? I tried to find corresponding problems on the forums but none seemed to match my problem. This is the only place I have had viewing problems. Thanks for any assistance.

or just go to Add/Remove & search for Macromedia Flash Plugin ;)

Thats definitely the easiest way to go, but I robbed from Ubuntu's repo not beeing kept up to date like it should. Your way is easier and takes less time.

Hi pch, before I try and install OPERA I should tell you that I have adobe flash player installed and it works just fine. It is only on the one site I have a problem. If I install OPERA will View Point Media Player work on it?

Hi pch, well I gave OPERA a try and it did'nt work there, I guess it is simply a windows program. I did like OPERA tho, a nice little browser. Maybe I should try Konquerer.

Nick, where do you see any media player on those links you posted? Are we supposed to have a media player pop up or something?
EDIT: I found where the problem is coming in... you have to go through the search option and try to actually view records on somebody from there. I did so, and when I clicked on view, I received the error that was spoke about.

I'm downloading the windows .exe file to see if I can get it to run in wine.

Well, that didn't do a dang thing... I would install ie6 for wine and then try that method. On another note, it looks like there is a lot of complaints about this 'Veiw Port Media Player' and some speculation about it being spyware. I would personally see if you can get ahold of the web-master and request something of a different format.
