Yes, as strider has said using synaptic package manager for this is the easiest way to go. I un-install FF3 every install and continue to use FF2.
Go into Synaptic: System>>Administration>>Synaptic and do a search for Firefox, remove all that is installed. Then at the same time, mark for installation: firefox-2 and firefox gnome-support - this will take care of you.
