Grub problem after upgrade to 1.8

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

Grub problem after upgrade to 1.8

Postby johnny5 » Fri Aug 22, 2008 4:12 pm

Hello,
I'm having a strange issue with GRUB. I installed Ultimate Edition 1.8 64 version in a dual boot with Windows XP.
Everything was great until I issued an upgrade by clicking the upgrade icon on desktop. When I rebooted, the GRUB screen shows up but no highlight bar shows up to choose a selected operating system. I have rebooted several times and chose a brand new session..No luck. I am forced to boot into Ultimate and nothing else??
Any clues??Thanks :o

I've been bit by the Update bug in the same way in the past.
Go to Startup Manager and select a different theme and color for Grub.
this should allow you to actually see the highlighted area.

this may be the problem, also a possibility is that your bios may have "loaded optimized defaults" and there is no keyboard support in the bios/grub until you have booted an OS. In your bios, if you have a USB keyboard, make sure that the setting is "enabled" for a usb mouse/keyboard. I have had this issue, this is what fixed it.

Hope this helps,
