Upgrade stuck running in cleaning up mode

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

Upgrade stuck running in cleaning up mode

Postby davidmarinegold » Mon Aug 11, 2008 11:13 am

I've updated my ultimate edition 1.8 64bit edition through the update icon several times and my system is now updated but the last time I hit the update icon and it ran through the update process it stayed in cleaning up mode
for several hours. I acutally didn't want to cancel it but after running for six hours in cleaning up mode I had enough and canceled it. This morning I hit the update icon again and answered the routine questions it asks and
it started up in cleaning mode again. What's going on???

Howdy david & Welcome to Ultimate Edition!! :D Was doing some searching for your particular problem over Google and no joy...Are you talking about the Upgrade icon on the Desktop?? ... you can try and open Terminal and run sudo apt-get autoclean, then see if that clears up the update prob...if that doesn't work, let us know back here... :D 8-)

Hello, David, and welcome!!! I believe you are talking about the Upgrade Icon on the desk top???? If you are, have you read Leadfingers explanations about Upgrade vs. Update in the newbies forum??? If not, you should start there. One thing about the process, is that sometimes boxes requiring action or selection are hidden behind other boxes...So while it appears that nothing is happening, the OS is awaiting a response from you... Try grabbing hold of the box and moving it to see that there is nothing awaiting action from you behind it...

Have you rebooted..cleaning up sometimes gets stuck..should only run for a min. or two. You can stop it after that lenth of time. Saddle was right on command
You should be fine after a restart ;)
Run
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get clean

then
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get autoremove

If you have any doubts you can also run the upgrade icon again..everything should show up as installed...
And welcome to Ultimate Edition.. :)
