Video issue maybe?

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

Video issue maybe?

Postby muad » Wed Jul 09, 2008 12:52 pm

I used Envy to install drivers for my ATI video card. When I run a game, like open arena, it's kinda choppy. I get what looks like black frames in the mix, which makes it look like a hiccup or something. I even enabled the restricted ATI drivers and it's the same. It happens whenever I try to play any of the 3D first person shooters that come with the Gamer Ultimate Edition upgrade.

Thanks in advance for the help.

My first question is, did you install Ultimate Edition on a separate partition, or within windows (WUBI) ? I have had this issue with a WUBI installation, but not with a separate partition. Hope this helps...

I installed it on a separate partition. I used sysrcd or whatever to shrink my XP NTFS partition, and made two partitions, one for swap, and one for Ultimate Edition (ext3?).

I've been doing some digging around, and my ATI card is listed under the supported cards when using EnvyNG, so I'm not sure what is up. Everything else looks great. Could my monitor play a factor? When I go to System>Preferences>Screen Resolution it comes up at 1920x1200 with a 60 Hz refresh rate. In the graphical box it says Unknown.

Thanks for the try though.

My next question would be, do you have 32-bit or 64-bit Ultimate Edition installed? Also, what size monitor? I will try to replicate this tonight when I get home from work, and I'll post what I find. ADMINS & MODS, PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!!!

Have you got Compiz enabled when you are playing the video games? If so that could be your problem...

Just tried doing what you said (turning off Compiz) while running a couple of games, and, YES--that seems to be what's causing the screen to act up.
PLEASE NOTE: I was only able to replicate this with a "WUBI" install - couldn't get it to act like this with my dedicated partition install.

THANK-YOU VINCA & COWBOY

SORRY I COULDN'T BE OF ANY MORE HELP!!!

Ok, monitor is a Dell 24-inch wide LCD. I've seen the compiz icon in my system tools, however I have no idea what it is. So if it is something that is on by default, then I'll see if I can turn it off.

Thanks for all the help and Patience :)

EDIT, I'm running the 32 bit as my friend said there is more compatibility with the 32 bit distros (more programs are available??) I'm on a Pentium D dual core (3GHz) system with 2GB of RAM.
