how to install bin files?

i have just tried to install real player 11. i have the files on my desktop but i dont know how to install bin files? :( the same applies to tar files in general. thanks

i have read the posts and it seems easy enough! thing is i have a MS disabled mindset when it comes to installing things in linux. i have difficulty in "seeing" where i need to make the different commands. i know it is terminal but when it comes to "directory" etc it just snookers me. is there a simple step by step visual available?? i think once i see how it is done then it will be easier :oops: it all applies to tar, bz2 etc files too, sorry if i still ask noob questions. thanks
