Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

wireless adapter wusb54gc

Postby scottsark » Mon May 26, 2008 3:10 pm

hey all. My wireless adapter wusb54gc has been intermittently dropping the signal since feisty so in an attempt to fix it i ran a script from ubuntuforums designed for gutsy after i read it had some success in heron. Now UU 1.8 won't even recognize it. How do I get back to the mildly annoying signal dropping that I had before I screwed it up without reinstalling the 32bit 1.8 again?

i had that prob once it was actually the antenna, but it looks like yours is usb based on the model number so it can't be that. i assume you think that it isn't recognized because the network applet looks like this
problem with wireless.png

that script you ran was for feisty, it may have worked just disabled the wireless function.
just to make sure the link i will link you is correct, type
Code: Select all
lspci
in terminal and make sure there's a line for a broadcom 43** ( the ** for any two numbers) at some point in the results.
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1040
even though the drivers used in that howto are older, i'm using them right now in 1.8, so they work. i am linking you to this one because it covers the problem of hot even having the wireless network line available in the applet (at the bottom of the 1.8 section)

i hope that this is helpful.
