New installation of 32 bit 1.8

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

New installation of 32 bit 1.8

Postby Benbow » Fri May 23, 2008 9:13 am

Brilliant, absolutely the bees knees, superb. A few adjectives to describe this latest production from Thee Man. I have been a Ubuntu addict for around 12 months now, Ultimate Edition came to me about 2 months later and I have used it almost exclusively since. I invariably try out the latest upgrades of Ubuntu as they appear but always return to Ultimate Edition. I have found the latest 8.04 Hardy Heron particularly troublesome and the extra software provided with Ultimate Edition 1.8 seems to overcome most of these difficulties.

One concern I have is that previous upgrades of Ultimate Edition came with a choice to automatically install Flash and Adobe etc. 1.8 is a little different and I found that what was normally a simple operation became (for me) technically difficult. In fact I am still struggling with Flash! Is it possible to have the original installation procedure back?

Well done Thee Man, you have made a relatively easy switch from Windows much simpler with added programmes as a bonus.

Fire up a terminal and copy and paste the following:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Enter your password when prompted, press return and let Ultimate Edition do it's Ultimate thaaaaang...

Problem solved.

Okay, it appears you've cross-posted.

You have this thread open with the title "New Installation of 32 bit 1.8" and you've posted about the same problem in another thread with the title "Video Problems with 32 bit 1.8".

This is why you're confused. Bad poster! No biscuit!!

Solution: Pick one thread and stick to it. Cowboy or I can lock the other thread to prevent further confusion. I would suggest you keep "Video Problems with 32 bit 1.8" active since the title is more descriptive.

EDIT: Screw it... Taking charge of this situation. Locking this thread.

@ Benbow: please continue this discussion in THIS THREAD instead.

Thought about merging the two threads but was afraid that would only add to the confusion.

Note: Will delete this thread after your problem is solved.."cowboy"..hope you don't mind my edit Baph
