Video problems with 1.8 32 bit

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

Video problems with 1.8 32 bit

Postby Benbow » Fri May 23, 2008 9:39 am

Having installed 1.8 and very pleased with it, I am unable to open and play video clips on Yahoo and YouTube.
Any ideas what I should be doing or installing?

I think we are getting into a double post situation... ..go into Synaptics uninstall Gnash should be three.. then in Applications..Add/And Remove..click the arrow in show select all available applications search for Macromedia Flash Pluggins install that ..and you should be set to go.. ;)

EDIT:we where getting into a double post will delete the other post that is locked till we resolve your problem... :|

Fire up a terminal and copy and the paste the following:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Enter your password, press Enter. You should be good to go from there.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am...

If it's not broken, you haven't tweaked it enough.

Hi Baphomet & Cowboy
I used Baphomet's reply first as it was the easiest which appeared to have no effect? I then tried to follow on with Cowboy's answer and got this in Synaptic -

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

I the returned to Terminal typed dpkg --configure -a and got this -

ow@benbow-desktop:~$ dpkg --configure -a
dpkg: requested operation requires superuser privilege
benbow@benbow-desktop:~$

How do I get "superuser privilege"?
