Brother laser (colour) printer on UE3.4lite[SOLVED]

Postby pab001 » Tue Jun 04, 2013 8:18 pm

Problem:
I have a brand new BROTHER HL-3045CN LED Laser Printer (Colour), and very carefully assembled it (Have photos of the process!), and set it up as per instructions. The TEST PAGE printed perfectly. I then set up as best I could, the LINUX drivers, and connected it to the computer.
I am using UE3.4 lite (64bit) {UBUNTU 12.04LTS?} on a brand new ASUS computer!
The printer was 'found' by the computer and set up. It recognised the printer as being 'idle' and the printer was 'ready'.
BUT when a test print was tried, the computer came back with the error message “waiting for the printer to respond” it waited 9hours!!!
I have since removed the printer from the computer and re-installed the drivers etc., all to no avail.
I have virtually NO knowledge of using the Terminal, so am wondering if there is something that needs to be done in the Operating system?
Detailed instructions would be appreciated.
ps, just had a thought, Ultimate Edition uses Gnome - is this the problem?

SOLVED.
I am not certain how, it was done by my Grandson! He said that a 'tiddle' (~)? was incorrect in one of the instructions! ? I could not cut and paste at the time, so it was probably my faulty typing!!
