Hello everyone,
I've been having issues updating even when I go to terminal and also a lot of crash reports. Sometimes when I started Ultimate Edition 3.4, there are no icon showing up on my screen. On terminal I cannot either update nor upgrade. How can I fix it, please? I attached a screenshot to my topic
Thanks
PS: I'd like to have a battery icon showing on the top menu. How can I do it?

Your post looks eerily similar to this one with regards to error report. I thought Pam's solution might help.

I notice you are using the 3.6 kernel. You then mention an issue with icons not appearing. Since I have faced a similar issue when using the 3.7 kernel, I would like to make you aware there are some firmware files that should go into lib/firmware/radeon for ATI users and not sure which is the other as I only had ATI. I have a post about upgrading to newer kernels, that should explain exactly where to get those files. See as Linux moves forward, they discover better ways to handle graphics. Ultimate 3.4 was built on the 12.04 architecture whereas in 12.10 these firmware files have now been added. Have no fear as the files can still be added for the 12.04 and those files will greatly improve the reactions of the gnome desktop. Believe me, I went thru issues such as tasbar not coming up and icons not appearing, so I know for a fact those files help, as I put them in and it was smooth operation on boot. Also noticed were better reactions with compiz. If you have nvidia druvers, am not sure where to find those files, but am sure someone here can help. Anyway just hope this will help, as having ATI conflicts and problems made me aware so I just had to post for all others upgrading to new kernels.

Excellent point BBoss.
But i reckon he doesn't have anything radeon, so he should not encouter that error when upgrading to kernel 3.7..
The kernel still needs 'house-cleaning' work.

@killaed
press ALT+superkey(windows key on the keyboard)+RIGHT MOUSE CLICK --to add a battery applet on the panel.
In Add-to-panel the option is --> Indicator Applet Complete

Same could apply to nvidia as have been there but of course with windoze only. Am sure the way these architectures are improving there would also be more firmware for nvidia. Just had hit home as I had some of the same difficulties when I upped the kernel. Gnome is very finicky!!! Still, pam you definitely always have a better plan!!! Just hope it gets the problem all cleared as is the main point!!! Absolutely love the way you get that tasbar fixed in a flash!!! Still enjoying the weather setup you helped me with!!!! :D

AMD and nvidia have Nothing in common. Both work differently. Also killaed has intel video graphics on his Gateway and none of this applies. AMD provides open source support and better proprietary drivers as well . Whereas nvidia closed source drivers are reverse-engineered(probably with a hex-editor) and branded as nouveau. Hence the finger shown by Linus Torvalds.
