Ultimate 1.4 On Dell Inspiron Laptop - GUI Fails

Postby exploreankit » Tue Oct 30, 2007 11:23 am

I downloaded Ultimate Gamer's Edition 1.4

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop...with ATI Radeon x1400 Graphics Card....

When i booted up from the Ubuntu DVD....It starts up normally but suddenly it shows a error message That XGraphical Uer Interface has failed to load.
It says if u want to view details....

and in the next screen nothing is clearly visible....and everything is messed up and it shows the information...where it says NO SCREENS FOUND...

nothing else happens after this....

Now then i tried to boot from the dvd on my desktop computer.
It has an Intel Graphics Controller.
Ubuntu booted up properly in this case and everything was perfect. :)

Now the problem is obviously of the graphics card. But i have no idea on how to rectify the problem.

thanx in advance. :D

EDIT: this is an ATI post for graphics: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=71&p=421#p228
& here is another on : viewtopic.php?f=27&t=116#p636
check these out and see if that helps. :)

This is a graphics driver issue. ATI is not my strong point. I know you will have to edit your xorg.conf file. easiest way to accomplish this is to type: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg from a command propt >> type your root password and follow the on screen prompts (usually selecting the default options). when you come across a section that asks " would you like to automaticlly detect your graphics card?" you can select 'yes', if you like and see what it comes up with, or you can select 'no' and this will give you a complete list of available options on your graphics driver/ setup. I will dig around here in this forum, it sounds like this problem has allready been addressed here by an experianced ATI guy. I'll edit this post when I find it. ;)
