Streaming Audio problem...

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.7

Streaming Audio problem...

Postby TexasMike » Wed Apr 02, 2008 10:41 am

Hello all,
I am encountering a problem when I try to listen to my favorite Radio station in Firefox. When I select the "Listen Live" link on the webpage, the pop-up comes up, but all I see is a window with "Loading Content..." with a little spinner going to indicate it is loading. I do have Java installed, also No Script (I've "Allowed" both the station's URL (http://www.kkrw.com) and the "clearchannel.com" URL.
Not sure why this is such a problem as it worked perfectly in Ultimate Edition 1.6 with the steps mentioned above. Anyone encountered such a problem with Ultimate Edition 1.7 and Firefox 2.0.0.13 (this is my current installation)?

Regards,
TexasMike

Try installing the new firefox:http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html
and see if that solves your issue. It is beta, but has a lot of new features. Hope this works.

pch.shot,
I would rather determine why my Firefox 2.0.0.13 is not able to do this. I have it working on this version of Firefox on another system running UUE1.6, and still another running Ultimate Edition 1.4 (not sure which Firefox is on the 1.4 system). I listen to my fav radio stations, pretty much all day long on those systems. It appears I have all the same settings and plugins as my 1.6 system.
Got any other suggestions...?? I will go to Firefox Beta IF necessary, but I believe the current version should work.... if I can just figure out what is wrong. I have checked my system logs - no help, no information there.

Regards...

A few "grasping in the dark" questions...
Have you checked for broken packages in synaptic?
How long since your last Upgrade,
have you done it since TheeMahn came out with the new upgrade script?
(in the Ultimate Edition repo global)
have you tried updating FF & plugins?
Do you have the same FF plugins as your other systems?
(those pesky plugins can cause problems sometimes)
Have you Googled it?
I'm presuming your sound works dandy.

I just tried your station from SeaMonkey(from a slackware box), and using gxine it played fine. Maybe try to install gxine. It's a nice little multimedia player. I will have a look at Firefox later today and see if I can get to the bottom of this. pch

I just booted up the live Ultimate 1.7 disc and the radio station is playing fine. Maybe try uninstalling Firefox and re-installing with Synaptic. That was without updating(I just installed flash plugin non-free). I clicked the HD Radio icon(at your station) in the top right hand corner. Nice station, by the way. Hope this helps. pch

leadfingers and pch,
I finally got the HD broadcast to stream and it now plays fine. Interesting that I cannot get the regular "on air" program content to work at all. I have this working on several other systems, and even had it on this one when using Ultimate Edition 1.6. As to having the same plugins installed as on the other systems, I ran into something on the Mozilla "add-ons" site.... Has this site made a major change in appearance AND content???? I cannot find the link "plugins" on the new page - "https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/". I do not remember this being an https page....??? I do not find Flash Player, java script or Adober Acrobat plugins on this site. What's up.....? I got there via: Firefox Tools Menu>Add-0ns>Get Extensions (in the "Add-ons" window).

Regards...
