My music cd's play fine but when I try to read them I get this warning "cdda:///dev/hdc is not a valid location. Please check spelling and try again". I have no idea how to check the spelling. Please give me some advice so I can read and rip some of these cd's.

What ripper are you using? Player? How do you browse to the location of your disc? Or do you specify a location from .... ???

Hi daddy, this will be a lengthly explanation. I used to be able to insert my cd, than open my music file, then copy and paste from the cd to my music file. However I connected an all-in-one HP C4440 to my computer and tried various installs and uninstalls before I got it to work. I then figured that now I know how to get it working I would reformat my computer and reinstall my system so as to get rid of any errors I might have installed (I'm a newby as you have guessed). Everything works fine now except when when I try to open my cd file to transfer music to my music file I get the message I stated. I hope this explains the problem a little better. I hate to have to reformat my system all over again.

Sounds like you have just not installed the propper codecs again yet. Try downloading TheeMahns 'Ultamatix' program and install win32codecs and dvdccs2 through that program ... super easy! Here is the link: Ultamatix

Hi again daddy, I went to the ultramix site and it told me it could only be downloaded to ubuntu 1.8. So I upgraded to 1.8 and now everything works just fine. I did not download ultramix because I just want to use my system for awhile with no problems. I guess I will be leaving the 1.7 forums board now to graduate to problems on the 1.8 LOL. Thank you very much for the very good advice I have received on this forum.

One last remark on this page, now that I am on ubuntu 1.8, I just want everyone who reads this to know it is a great system. I guess I can consider this problem solved. Thank you again for having me on this forum. I'll probably be seeing everyone on the 1.8 forum eventually as it is the logical system to switch to now.
