cant play music??!

i have a folder that contains some of my music. i have ripped them from the cd in mp3 format and when i launch banshee/ amarok etc it fails to play? any ideas?

You have just no sound? or do they not launch?

First thing I see you have Ubuntu Gutsy as your O/S it does not support mp3 without adding codecs, Ultimate Edition supports mp3s "out of the box". You will need to add add your repos restricted etc.

sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly


You may also need w32codecs you can obtain them from mediabuntus site

thanks for the replies. i have w32 codecs installed since i watch some dvd's wit it. i have sound and the apps launch. what i want to see happen is that i w ant all my music in one folder and from there play them via amarok/ banshee or similar. i get the message that dbus is preventing things to happen? what is dbus when at home? and how do i fix this issue? thanks ;)

No but sure can cause problems with dbus...
