FLOCK web browser

Hello, I recently heard about this web browser called FLOCK, suppose to be good for people who like the social sites like FACEBOOK, TWITTER, etc. I was able to install it into Ultimate Edition and it seems very fast, probably the fastest browser I have ever used. It does things for FB that I didn't know were possible! But it is missing a few plugins, or at least I get some errors about missing plugins, I installed all plugins and re-installed them but still get a few errors. Despite that, it is still useful, my gmail loads much faster with this browser for sure! Would love to see what Thee Mahn can do for this program if it is a default app.

Hello, Flock says I need the Macromedia shockwave 7 plugin, the newest Adobe 10 plug in. Trouble is that they are already installed, reinstalled and reinstalled several times, via Synaptic. The program doesn't see them and when I click on the link that the program pops up to find said plugin, it says that there are no compatible plugins avilable, other than the Adobe one. If I click on that Adobe plugin, it says that the installation failed and to do a manual install, which also always fails. This all happens while I am on Facebook, the FB site loads up and works okay but the missing plugins popup appears every now and then. It is strange since the site is geared towards working with FB. When the missing plugin popup for MM 7 shockwave appears, I end up at an Adobe site when I click on any link to MM. I have installed all SW files from Synaptic that appear.

I should say that I have none of these issues when on Facebook via the Firefox browser. So it appears to me to be a Flock issue or I did something wrong when I installed it, as I had to install it via the terminal.

Hey JohnnyG,

LOL.

I really think this could be one of the best browsers, if they get a few kinks out. I still use it despite the plugin issue, My gmail loads so much faster on Flock. Well if you have the same issues, then I probably installed it correctly. Maybe the next release will fix the glix.LOL. Thanks for responding!

Hi,
Have you tried this?
Fire up the terminal and paste this in it:
sudo nautilus
Navigate to the folder:
usr/lib/firefox/plugins and copy the only file present there 'flashplugin-alternative.so'
to this folder:
/usr/share/flock/plugins/
Restart Flock and you will have flash working.

Cheers.

Hello, Well that worked fine and dandy! Though my files were in a different folder, the end result was the same. Flock was not in the /usr/share/, mine was in the "home" folder, though it works none the less.

Thanks!!

Hehe, glad you knew enough to work it out. I didn't actually install Flock - I ran it directly from the untarred folder, dropped in the plugin and away she went, so I sort of guessed at the file location. I kinda like what I've seen so far, so may actually give it a good go and see what it can do. Thanks for the heads up!.

Cheers.

Hello Moebius,

Now that I no longer get error messages, I am very pleased with Flock and probably use it as my main browser, especially if I am on Facebook, since it displays my friends info/pics while I am connected to FB. I play a few of the games and they perform much faster using Flock. Hope you enjoy using FLock and thanks again for helping to fix the plugin problem!
